CommentsYeah, it's Victorian. :3
I don't really know what British slang from 1870 would be like so I just went with the flow, especially for Frank. I'm trying to make sure that Gerard and Mikey speak with more 'cannot's and 'do not's instead of 'can't's and 'don't's so they seem proper, I guess. Thank you so much and I'll try to make sure they don't use too many modern day phrases. 8D Dude! I have a link to this fabulous site I found while writing Sweet Escape, it's got Victorian slang and it's awesome. I'll send you the link as soon as I find it c: I found it helpful, and pretty funny too.
C: You're doing a really good job, don't get me wrong. It can be super hard to get the manner of speaking right, trust me, I know :/ Found it! Here's general swear and taboo words: [link] and here's low class (like...really low class) British slang for Frank perhaps: [link]
Slang specific to the decade you're looking at: [link] And! here's some sexual slang xD just...because: [link] Also, they called legs limbs, because 'leg' was considered a vulgar word (although what with all the other stuff they did, I don't really understand that xD) And, if Frank is fairly low class, keep in mind that they were pretty free with their sexuality farther down in the Victorian ranks ;D Hope this helps c: Well Frank's not like poor, since his family does own a bakery, but he's not quite middle class. He'd probably still use some of the low class slang though. Story wise, his mom wants him to be proper, like she was. (I'll be explaining Frank and Gerard's 'full' pasts in the second part)
Have I used 'leg' in speech? :S I can't remember half of the things I write, but if they say 'leg' in part 2, I'll make sure it's limb (sounds like they're talking about trees I did, like, full research on clothing though, which was very informative. I never knew men didn't leave the house without a coat of some sort. These links will be godsend! Thank you so much!! I'll be saving them for later use on other historical stories I may write. :* Yeah, that makes sense
xD I don't know, aha. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Haha! Well, if they're 30, they can be trees, according to Frank Oh gosh I love Victorian clothing. Of course! I'm glad you find them useful <3 |
I think you pulled this off wonderfully. From the way they speak to the sexy (Victorian?) clothing, the details were immaculate and there were only a few times where the speaking became a little too 21st century for my liking.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE where this is going. Victorian (is it Victorian? I'm assuming it is) vampires and esquires and Italian bakeries and sheesh I can practically taste the feels which are surely coming. I have a great feeling about this <3
Nicely done, as always. I look forward to more soon!
